Point-of-Purchase Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Point-of-Purchase - Essay Example Products and services must be developed that appeal to a mass of individuals. Common wants and needs that pertain to the social, regional, educational, economic, psycho- logical, national, or other group interest of a market segment must be recognized and translated into profitable opportunity. I am satisfied with this new product and I am going to buy it again and recommend to my friends. In general, point-of-purchase (POP) decisions are influenced by spontaneous desire to try a new product. POP is most effective where products can be differentiated, where demand is expanding, where hidden product qualities cannot be identified at the time of purchase, and where favorable company images or strong emotional buying motives exist. The purchasing process and the related acts of accumulation and consumption are means of achieving goals both of the purchaser and those he represents. The acts of accumulation and consumption indicate the differences between consumers and purchasers, and bet ween consumption and buying. Both industrial purchasing agents and "consumer purchasing agents" are essentially engaged in solving problems (Boone and Kurtz 2002). Another product selected for analysis is a new anti-aging crme by Clinique. Product is advertised by many local specialty shops and cosmetic departments through in-store ads and personal selling. This POP campaign annoys me because I do not use this brand and do not need this product. I suppose that this example shows that considerable confusion exists over the meaning of consumer wants and needs. In a most restricted sense, needs refer to things we cannot do without, items that are indispensable to life. Food, shelter, air, and water are needs in this absolute sense. For marketing purposes, however, this definition is much too narrow. Buyers are not totally inept or irrational in making purchases, particularly household purchases. Actually, consumers have become quite professional in some areas of consumption. Veritable purchasing agents, they often plan their purchases, especially of high-priced durable goods such as automobiles and washers and dryers. Information is important to them about the advantages and limitations of various types of items. I did not buy this product and will not recommend it to other people. This example shows that buyer behavior is also concerned with ways of reducing perceived risk. Two types of uncertainty inhere in product decisions. First, products may not be as functional or durable, or perform as well, as anticipated. Second, there is the risk of unfavorable product reflection on one's self image. Product risk is a function of the degree of product knowledge, the price of the product, product visibility, and the social significance of products and their newness (Crawford 2003). In many cases, POP campaign is ineffective and does not meet the needs and wants o manufacturers. However, for many products such as television, stereophonic components, and air conditioners, it should be noted that even given the technical information, consumers do not have the background necessary to interpret the data and make the wisest purchasing decisions. Purchase responses are shaped by communications which, in part, are controlled by the seller in the form of advertising and selling. But seller-dominated market communications do not furnish all the information necessary to satisfy the curiosity and needs of buyers.

Addressing School Violence in the United States Essay
Addressing School Violence in the United States - Essay Example Statistically, during the school years of 2008-2009, there were fixed 38 violent deaths on school premises, among students aged 5-18. As for non-fatal violent cases, 1.2 million students suffered from thefts and assaults back in 2008 (Robers, Zhang, and Truman, 2010). The school shootings mentioned above have been classified as ââ¬Å"rampage violenceâ⬠. It has been established that the acts of rampage violence at school have much in common with other acts of massive violence unrelated to schools. Along with rampage shootings at workplace and political terrorism, these acts have been committed by males who were mentally disturbed (Harris & Harris, 2012, p. 1054). Along with rampage shootings, school violence in the United States includes a list of the following undesired behaviors and anti-social acts: acts against peopleââ¬â¢s property and objects (for example, arson, theft, acts of vandalism, etc), acts against same-sex and opposite sex peers (bullying, assault, intimidatio n, rape, harassment, etc), acts against school staff (sexual offences, theft, assault). Besides, Algozzine and McGee also mention ââ¬Å"victimless actsâ⬠here, which include skipping classes, for example (Algozzine & McGee, 2011, p.91). ... d that school prevention harassment consultations should be carried out by principals and teachers at schools, with emphasis on engaging students in a meaningful dialogue (Wessler, 2011). Further, intervening at the point of school entry is recommended to prevent undesirable behavior at an early age through implementation of the First Step to Success program (Walker, Severson, Feil, Stiller, and Golly, 1998). In order to devise effective policies targeted at handling rampage school violence in the United States, first of all, changes need to be done on the level of scholarly research into the problem. Specifically, the solution which is expected to lead to better understanding of rampage school violence is doing transdisciplinary research (Harris & Harris, 2012, p.1055). Since the existing explanations of rampage violence at American school given by sociologists and mental health experts have been found inadequate in interpreting the criminal actions, a multi-factor approach was sugg ested. It suggests that 5 basic factors need to be studied in order to understand the nature of rampage violent attacks. Specifically, within Newmanââ¬â¢s explanatory model, these factors include individual marginalization, exposure to certain cultural scripts, weapon access, inadequacy of surveillance systems at schools, and psychosocial factors that magnify the marginalization (Harris & Harris, 2012, p.1055). Taken Newmanââ¬â¢s model as a basis, Harris & Harris suggest that school violence should be studied in a broader context. While they find Newmanââ¬â¢s approach limited sociologically, Harris & Harris believe uniting the efforts of scholars in mental health, epidemiologic, social, criminal, and neurobiological spheres will help produce desirable results once the data are used for policy

Managing Business Activities to Achieve Results Essay - 2
Managing Business Activities to Achieve Results - Essay Example Two crucial functions in the McLarenââ¬â¢s business operations strategy are R&D and Operations. Whereas the operations function is concerned with the transformation of resources into products, the R&D function concerns itself with the innovation and development of new technologies/product lines. The two functions work hand in hand in delivering quality products that are relevant to the fast changing market demand. This is consistent with McLarenââ¬â¢s strategic plan of constantly introducing new models or derivatives every year. Q1.2 With the main objective of the operations function being creation and delivery of goods & services with customersââ¬â¢ needs in mind, it is important for McLaren to analyze whether it is consistently achieving the same. An Inputs-Outputs transformation model is a systematic approach to operations management. This system is important operations managers at McLaren considering that the organization aims at attaining competitive advantage through early introduction of new models or derivatives in the marketplace. Operations have three components i.e. inputs, transformation process and outputs. The transformation process refers to all activities involved in the conversion of inputs through value addition into outputs that satisfy customer needs. There are three resource types that may be transformed in the process of operations. Materials include the rubber and other physical inputs, information may include the innovations availed through R&D and customers include but not limited to companies involved in formula one racing. Proper utilization of materials, information and understanding of customer needs, therefore, enables organizations effectively achieve their operational goals. McLaren has invested heavily in R&D and this makes it compete favorably among peers in the marketplace. Q1.3 One manufacturing strategy used toà determine and manage interactions between different organizational systems is the process approach to quality.Ã

Anti keylogger techniques Literature review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Anti keylogger techniques - Literature review Example The recent increase in internet usage means that that the disadvantages of key-loggers outweigh its productive uses. The source amplifies how key-loggers are a serious threat to privacy and security, especially because they are barely discernible against anti-virus and spyware applications. Transient kernel control flow attacks are an innovative group of stealthy kernel-level malware that apply dynamic soft timers to attain considerable work while evading any continual alterations to kernel code or data (Wei, Payne, Giffin, and Pu, 2008). To defend against attacks such as stealthy key logger and a CPU cycle stealer, it is essential to examine the static analysis of the entire kernel. The source affirms that through this, one can identify and catalog all genuine STIR in a database. At run-time, a reference monitor in a reliable virtual machine allows the implementation of recognized and good soft timer interrupt requests and averts implementation of all unidentified STIRs. Schiffman and Kaplan (2014) present new SMM-based malware that usurps USB host controllers to interrupt USB events. System Management Mode (SMM) in x86 can manage physical hardware that the host operating system cannot notice virtually. It is a new class of malware with unbelievable power that helps to transform kernel data structures and trapping on I/O registers to execute PS/2 key loggers. In essence, it helps SMM root kits to manage USB devices straightforwardly without while denying the OS kernel from receiving USB-related hardware interrupts. Schiffman and Kaplan also discuss a proof-of-concept USB key logger, which are harder to identify than previous SMM-based key loggers that are activated by OS actions like port I/O. The source further suggests extra extensions to this technique and processes to avoid and moderate such attacks. Gupta, Sengupta, Bhattacharyya, and Chattrejee (2009) present a user verification

Why marijuana should be legalized Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Why marijuana should be legalized - Essay Example Thesis: Marijuana is a drug; however this drug is similar to drugs that are already legal such as caffeine and tobacco. Many with health problems can benefit from the use of marijuana and marijuana is safer than most commonly prescribed drugs. The Legalization of Marijuana To much of the public, marijuana is known as a drug. To those who use marijuana, it is known as medicine. This medicine does many things and helps many. Marijuana is used to treat cancer symptoms and eating disorders, and that is just the start of the benefits marijuana has to offer. Overall, it is believed that a large amount of time and money is wasted by drug task force agencies in the aid to prevent the sale and use of marijuana. Legalizing marijuana would lessen the need to waste funding on these agencies. Marijuana is a drug; however this drug is similar to drugs that are already legal such as caffeine and tobacco. Many with health problems can benefit from the use of marijuana and marijuana is safer then mos t commonly prescribed drugs. To understand why some would like for marijuana to be legal, it is important to understand the history of marijuana. Marijuana is an all natural plant that grows naturally. Marijuana in its natural form is said to date back to 2737 B.C. Throughout history marijuana was used to create a euphoria effect. In 1942, marijuana was listed by pharmaceutical companies and used to treat many different disorders. Not soon after the drug was used for common medical problems was it then labeled in the same drug class as heroin. The government then banned marijuana claiming it was a ââ¬Å"gatewayâ⬠drug. Marijuana was at one point legal, just like many other commonly known drugs. Since marijuana is used for medicinal purposes, it needs to be treated like other prescription drugs. This means, keeping it in a safe area, and only using when prescribed. Those who have abused the drug and shared with teenagers could have contributed to harsh government regulation whi ch caused the ban of marijuana in the first place. It is important to be smart with any and all prescription drugs. This is why with the correct amount of education, marijuana should again become legal and used for its created purposes. There is so much money spent by American, Mexican, Canadian and other authorities to try and prevent the growing, use and distribution of marijuana. The amount of money spent by America alone is billions each year. For a government trying to make budget cuts, legalizing marijuana would free up a large amount of money that could be used to get America out of debt. This billions of dollars doesnââ¬â¢t even cover the cost of inmate housing. Since distribution, possession and use of marijuana is punishable by jail, many are sent to prison because marijuana is illegal. Punishing those who use marijuana only creates more spending to house inmates and contributes to prison overcrowding. Eating disorders and cancers are another common problem that marijua na helps with. Those who suffer from bulimia, anorexia, and lack of appetite from chemotherapy, benefit from using marijuana. Marijuana allows the brain to tell the body that it is hungry and may be the only thing that works to help those who normally would not be able to eat. Legalizing the use of marijuana for these disorders improves the quality of life and betters the chance of survival for the ones battling the disorders. Marijuana creates euphoric effects. These euphoric affects help many concentrate. Those who struggle with ADHD, ADD and who are generally excitable can use marijuana to relax and better focus. This is much safer to use then commonly prescribed medicines such as Aderal, Ridalin and anti anxiety medications. Many commonly use medicines used to help people concentrate have caused heart attack and
Contemporary Management Issues Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Contemporary Management Issues - Essay Example This tendency is projected to aggravate over the next few years due to an expected mass retirement of most of Britainââ¬â¢s working class, leaving a small number in the job market. In decades to come, the number of people in the employment sector will be less than that of retirees. This interprets that the number of citizens of working age is set to be inversely comparative to that of retirees. This mass retirement, will result in limited workforce in both the private, and public sectors. The expected gap in the job market will negatively affect the economy, as the demand for commodities will be higher than the supply leading to anticipated inflation. The health sector will also feel the effect as most of the pensioners will be in need of more healthcare and social services. With the dwindling savings of these retirees and the limited savings of the few in the job market, the government will be forced to find alternative ways to fund the health and pension systems. As a result, ma ny people are inclined towards accumulating savings during their active years and dissimulating the same savings after retirement. This could lead to people selling their assets rather than buying, therefore, reducing asset value and increasing interest rates. In summary, the current demographical trend in the United Kingdom could lead to inflation, a reduction in personal savings, increased interest rates, capital accumulation and an overall strain in government expenditure. An analysis of the demographic changes in the United Kingdom shows that birth-rates and fertility have significantly reduced as compared to the 1970s. On the other hand, death rates have been consistently lower than live births. This has ensured a considerable population increase, a shift from the 1990s when British women were not giving birth. Although this is the trend now, the retirees continue to pose a threat to the British economy. With the ever increasing number of retirees, coupled with the upcoming gen eration and a small working group, the United Kingdom is headed for tough economic times. All these, will result, in a decline in economic growth in Britain, if corrective measures are not taken. Impact of the European Union on the global economy The world today has become progressively more interdependent in as far as economic growth is concerned. The European Union is at the fore front in promoting global economic systems. Member states to the European Union enjoy less restrictive trading laws and fair competition due to the increased elimination of trade barriers. The European Union is a global powerhouse in trade, which has been able to contend with the United States. As the worldââ¬â¢s largest exporter, the European Union has continued to dominate the global economy. It exports high quality, first-class rated manufactured products. These include motor vehicles, chemicals and pharmaceuticals to nations outside this union. The United States and China are the leading destinatio ns for European Unionââ¬â¢s exports, mainly machinery and transport gear. The European Union is the second largest importer after the United States and gets most of its products from member states. With the adoption of the euro as the medium of exchange, lifting of tariffs and the free movement of people within its quarters, trade has flourished. Due to this power held by the European union, other countries are more often than not, forced to give in to its demands. The European Uni
